Very happy to find myself ranked 18th in Autosport's list of Top 20 club drivers of the year.

A second and third place at Pembrey last weekend was enough to build an unbeatable lead in the championship, with 2 rounds left to run. Mission accomplished :-)
Fancy taking over from here? I'm putting the car up for sale at the end of August after the double header at Pembrey. As such, it will be available for the last two rounds of the championship at Snetterton in September.
The race series awards 12 points (equivalent to a race win) to any driver who spends a day marshaling at an MSA event. This is just the motivation I need to spend the day in orange and see what life is like on the other side of the armco! So when I noticed that Lydden was hosting their infamous rallycross event, I couldn't think of a better way to spend my Bank Holiday Monday. I wasn't banking on having to get up at 05:30 but the marshals are typically signed-on before the drivers. Working on the startline, gridding up 60 races worth of heats and finals was a long, hard day's work but good fun and I was made to feel very welcome by the seasoned veterans. And I almost felt as if I was having too much fun when watching the 500bhp "supermodifieds" do a standing start from 2 metres back!!!
Well my eBay auction paid off. I was approached after the auction ended and am very pleased to have secured sponsorship from Rocare Building Services.
In my continuing quest for a sponsor I have put together an attractive sponsorship package and listed it as an eBay auction! Any interested parties, please take a look.
I hadn't quite figured it out myself but someone else did the maths and with one race left to go I have an unbeatable lead in the points table. I am the overall winner of the 2004 SELOC BMW Challenge!
I had almost forgotten about this! After the Silverstone race I was approached by Bob Bull of BBC Three Counties Radio. He stuck a microphone in my face and I blurted out answers to his questions about the BMW etc. Then I get a call from Bob this afternoon, congratulating me on my win at Lydden and letting me know that the interview was being broadcast this evening.

Did my ARDS test with 10 of my fellow competitors at Goodwood. The written exam was a bit of a formality but the practical driving test was a little unnerving - having to do 2 identical laps of an unknown circuit, in an unfamiliar car, at a faster pace than expected, with only one familiarisation lap beforehand! But all was fine and the application for my National B race license is in the post.
I had been looking forward to this event for months. Finally a chance to get the BMW on track at Lydden Hill, where we'll be having eight races next year. I made the decision early on that I couldn't afford and didn't have time to get the car and myself race-ready for this meeting. The next best thing was to enter the sprint so that I at least got a handful of laps in before the new season.
Took the BMW to North Weald yesterday afternoon for a "shakedown". Wanted to test if the misfire I suffered previously had been solved by replacing the ignition leads and see if anything would break etc. I also wanted to see what these things are like on the limit ;-)
Haaa-hahahahahaha!!!
Bloody hell, they're fantastic!!! The amount of controllable oversteer you can put on these babies is unreal. It really shows you just how difficult it is to slide the Elise. These things just love going sideways. Really glad we're not racing on sticky tyres now...

Managed a 1:03 lap round the NW circuit which ain't that bad. I think most Elises are doing high 50's? Performance was strong if not spectacular, the brakes were good (much better than expected) and the (failing) Spax suspension kept everything pretty much under control. The only problems with the car were brake pads on fire after a few laps and the coolant temp went into the red after about 20 laps. I'm not sure the cooling system with viscous fan is gonna cut it but other cars might be different. The only other thing was it's really keen to spin up it's inside rear wheel exiting tight corners. I guess an LSD would help there but that's cheating!
Sold for £510 (I'm crap at haggling).
Actually it drove really well. Got oversteer turning right out the forecourt as the black tyre goo struggled for traction. Performance was better than I was expecting - not earth shattering but respectable I thought.
Pulled away nicely from a few standing starts, brakes worked OK and locked the front wheels quite easily. Tracked straight enough and went round corners quite happily. The steering felt pretty vague but I reckon it will do the job.
Pick it up tomorrow after work once they put the passenger door window back on its runners. It's got a bunch of MOT certs and receipts. Looks like it's had some sort of engine rebuild (new followers) at some point and the cam belt was changed at 75k.
Looking forward to tearing the insides out now...
